Trust and Reputation Models Comparison
نویسندگان
چکیده
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyse and describe several trust and reputation models for distributed and heterogeneous networks and compare some of them in order to provide an evaluation amongst some of the most relevant works in this field. Design/methodology/approach – The authors have developed a trust and reputation models simulator for wireless sensor networks, called TRMSim-WSN, and implemented several trust models for distributed networks in order to test their accuracy as well as their resilience against a set of specific security threats that can be applied in these particular systems, as the paper will show. Findings – The analysis of the outcomes obtained from the experiments revealed that while some models have a reasonably good performance against certain security threats, none of them behaves as would be desired under any circumstances. Research limitations/implications – Ongoing work is focused on the implementation of several trust and reputation models in the simulator TRMSim-WSN, in order to have a wider range of possibilities for comparison. Furthermore, the authors are planning to include additional security threats that allow the testing of those models under new undesirable situations. Practical implications – The experiments show that when deciding which trust and/or reputation model is more suitable or adequate to be applied, it is crucial to study and analyse the specific features of the distributed network where such model is to be deployed, as well as the possible security threats that can spoil its accuracy. Originality/value – As far as is known, this is one of the few works in the field of trust and reputation in distributed systems where no new model is presented, but a comparison and analysis of some of the current most representative ones is carried out.

TREF: A Threat-Centric Comparison Framework for Decentralized Reputation Models
In a decentralized system, entities, also known as peers, directly interact with each other and make local autonomous decisions towards their individual goals. In an open decentralized system, there is no single centralized authority that can regulate the entry of peers in the system. As a result, the system may contain malicious peers that try to disrupt the system and carry out attacks on oth...
متن کاملComparison of Trust Model in Peer to Peer System
In a peer-to-peer system, one of the most important issues should be paid attention on is trust managing. Since such system always encounters some unknown agents. At present, the existing models for trust management, that are based on reputation. They do not either rely on a central database or require to maintain global knowledge at each agent to provide data on earlier interactions. In this p...
متن کاملMITRA: A Meta-Model for Information Flow in Trust and Reputation Architectures
We propose MITRA, a meta-model for the information flow in (computational) trust and reputation architectures. On an abstract level, MITRA describes the information flow as it is inherent in prominent trust and reputation models from the literature. We use MITRA to provide a structured comparison of these models. This makes it possible to get a clear overview of the complex research area. Furth...
متن کاملGGRA: a grouped gossip-based reputation aggregation algorithm
An important issue in P2P networks is the existence of malicious nodes that decreases the performance of such networks. Reputation system in which nodes are ranked based on their behavior, is one of the proposed solutions to detect and isolate malicious (low ranked) nodes. Gossip Trust is an interesting previously proposed algorithm for reputation aggregation in P2P networks based on t...
متن کاملComparison of the Beta and the Hidden Markov Models of Trust in Dynamic Environments
Computational trust and reputation models are used to aid the decisionmaking process in complex dynamic environments, where we are unable to obtain perfect information about the interaction partners. In this paper we present a comparison of our proposed hidden Markov trust model to the Beta reputation system. The hidden Markov trust model takes the time between observations into account, it als...
